We kept it simple, and you came through! Thanks to our generous Brentwood families and friends, PTA surpassed our Keep It Simple fund-raising goal of $4,000! Our current tally is more than $4,600. We can do even better! So please send in your donation if you haven’t yet. A big thank you to everyone who participated!

WHAT IS CAC?
My name is Donna Beckett and I am one of the parent representatives on the Brentwood Elementary Campus Advisory Council. Our CAC meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 5:30 p.m., in the library. (The next meeting is Oct. 15.) Members of the CAC are parents, teachers, a business member, a community member, our assistant principal and principal. The CAC advises Mrs. Carter on matters that concern our school. The meetings are open to the public. At every meeting, time is set aside for citizens to address the CAC, so please come by — whether to listen or speak. The agendas are posted no later than the Friday before the meetings, on the bulletin board across from the main office (where the classroom news and clipboards are). More information about the CAC can be found at www.austin.isd.tenet.edu/, click on Inside Austin. I can also try to answer your questions; please email me at beckett@grandecom.net.
VIOLET CROWN FALL ARTS FESTIVAL
The festival will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crestview Shopping Center, 7100 Woodrow Ave. The event will feature works by local arts, children’s activities, performance by Lamar’s Doggie Dames (12:45 p.m.) and others, refreshments and a neighborhood display and showing of “A Community Mosaic” film. Free admission. For more information, check out www.violetcrownfestival.com/
HELP SELL BAGS
If you are going to the Violet Crown Fall Arts Festival, why not spend an hour helping the PTA sell Bulldog Bags? You’ll be letting our community know how great our school is, meeting neighbors and supporting your PTA. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. If you can pitch in, please pick a time to sell bags at the festival or just stop by our table in the community tent. Email Lisa Roe at lwroe@grandecom.net to sign up.
LAMAR FEST
Lamar Middle School will hold its annual fall festival, Lamar Fest, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Lamar Middle School. Current, previous and future Lamar students, their families and friends, as well as neighbors and community members are invited! The festival promises an exciting evening of food, games, live music, and more.
EAT AT PLUCKERS
If you eat at Pluckers in the Crossroads Shopping Center (U.S. 183 at Burnet Road) any time in October and mention Brentwood Elementary, 20 percent of the bill (excluding alcohol) will be donated to the school.
PTA AND THE MOVIES
Shop for family-friendly movies and support PTA at the same time! Buying a gift card at the PTA Video Store means money for Brentwood PTA. A portion of the sales from each gift card redeemed will come to us, so it’s an easy way to support our school. The PTA Video Store sells only G, PG and PG-13 movies on DVDs and through downloads. Here’s how it works: Go to PTAVideoStore.com. Click on “Buy Gift Card.” Choose whether you want to send the gift card by mail or email. Then select Brentwood PTA from the pop-down menus. You can send a gift card to yourself or as a gift to others.
JOIN PTA
You can make a difference just by becoming a PTA member! For only $6 per person in dues, you will add your voice to a group of parents who are working to make Brentwood even better for all children. You don’t have to come to meetings – but we hope you will because they’re fun and informative. And members get discounts from companies such as Southwest Airlines Vacations and Barnesandnoble.com. (Go to www.PTA.org/benefits for a list.)
To join, dig up the membership envelope we sent home a few weeks back or just put your dues with your contact info and the name of your child and teacher in an envelope. Or join online at www.BrentwoodElementaryPTA.com.
Thank you to the 160 people who’ve already become members. We had 203 members last year, so we’re only 43 people away from matching that. But we want every Brentwood parent and teacher to become a part of PTA. Our deadline to send in the Texas and national PTA portion of the dues is Oct. 15, so please join right now.
NEW RECYCLING BINS
Brentwood’s new bins are located across from the main office and next to the PTA bulletin board. We are accepting the following for recycling:
Batteries
Cell Phones
Ink Jet Cartridges
Thick Phone Books
Plastic Grocery Bags
Energy Bar Wrappers
Corks & Crocs
Thank you for supporting our efforts!
STILL GARDENING
