CHICK-N-CHAT
Celebrate the new school year at our annual Chick-n-Chat and PTA meeting in the Brentwood café, Thursday, Sept. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  It is tonight!!!

Bring your family and enjoy dinner while mingling with the administration, teachers, and fellow parents.  Fried chicken will be provided; you bring the sides.  Please contact Carla Umlauf-Cheesar, PTA vice president, with any questions at 567-1478 or email her at carla@aveone.com.  See you there!

DADS GROUP
Hey Brentwood Dads,
This fall, some Brentwood dads are planning to start up a dads group at the school.  It’ll be a way for dads to get to know one another better and to help with projects at the school, especially ones that require that special dad expertise.  It will also be a way for dads to give something back to the school and feel more connected to what’s going on there.
One thing the group won’t have is a bunch of meetings – it will be more event-oriented, with some social events (with kids and without) and some school projects.  One upcoming possibility is helping build the haunted house for the Halloween carnival.  Do you see other dads in the hallway at school and wonder who they are?  This could be a chance to meet them.  Do you want to be more involved in the school but can’t because of work?  This could be a chance to do things at times convenient to you and other dads.  All dads are welcome.
Get in on the ground floor:  An  inaugural meeting is set for this Saturday at 3 p.m. (place to be determined).  Contact Russell Roe at 453-2358 or russellroe@grandecom.net if you are interested in the group and want more information about the meeting.

CHIMNEY SWIFTS
It’s time for the 5th annual Chimney Swift Bird Counting!  Meet at the Brentwood chimney at the back of the school, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.  Audobon specialists Julia and Andy Balinsky will talk about our fascinating population of chimney swift birds, living in the Brentwood chimney.  Last year, we counted more than 400 birds as they whirled and dove into the chimney at dusk.  Bring the family and a picnic supper to enjoy.  The birds go to bed at dusk.  The beautiful bird murals by Girl Scout troop 1288 are newly installed on the Brentwood chimney.  We will have a dedication at the swift watch.  Thank you Girl Scout troop 1288!!!!

LEARN MORE ABOUT CUB SCOUTING AND PACK 49
Join in the fun!  Cub Scout Pack 49 is centered in and around Brentwood Elementary.  We are having our Fall Recruiting Night on Monday, September 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Brentwood Elementary café for parents and boys interested in learning more about Cub Scouts.  In Cub Scouts, boys have lots of fun, adventure, and activities.  Cub Scouts is open to all boys from first grade through fifth grade.  Contact Nora Maxwell, steveandnora@sbcglobal.net, 339-1945 for more information.

WEBMASTER NEEDED
Brentwood is looking for a Webmaster volunteer to create/maintain a school website.  We currently have a district-provided school website, but we would like one a little more “personal,” that reflects the uniqueness of Brentwood Elementary.  Coordination with PTA, teachers, and the front office will be required.  Contact Mr. Reese, jreese@austinisd.org, for more information.

REESE’S PIECES 4TH GRADE
We are tie-dying t-shirts this Friday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m.  Volunteers welcomed!
Reese/Gray – 4th grade field trip to the Blanton Art Museum on Fri., Sept. 26

GARDENING BEE
Every Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m., meet near the front entrance of school to help weed and water and whatever else needs to be done to help keep Brentwood beautiful.  Bring your own gardening gloves, trowels, and other implements.  People who know something about gardening are begged to attend!  Children are welcome to help or can play on the nearby playground.  Thanks, Annie Hartnett (451-7949)

KEEP IT SIMPLE AND HELP OUR SCHOOL
For PTA’s fundraiser this year, there’s nothing to sell, no orders to keep track of.  With our Keep it Simple Fundraiser, we’re simply asking each family to give what they can, whether that’s $5 or $500.  These tax-deductible direct donations mean 100% of your gift benefits Brentwood students.  And each donation of $10 or more comes with one PTA membership.

The fundraising flier and membership envelopes went out in yesterday’s Wednesday folder.  Please don’t wait — make your donation now.  Just fill out the slip at the bottom of the flier and send it with your gift in the attached membership envelope.  Please send the envelope back in your child’s daily folder — and don’t forget to fill out all the information!

Because we’re not holding a catalog sale, we’re asking you to ask for donations from the friends and family members who would usually buy something from your child.  Please pass on a copy of the flier or send an email to your friends and family members with a link to our online donation site.

Online donors should go to www.brentwoodelementarypta.com and look for the “Donate” link on the right side.  Donations can also be mailed to Brentwood PTA, 6700 Arroyo Seco, Austin, TX, 78757.

PTA has some great plans for this year, including getting a climbing wall for the gym and making sure more teachers get Tribes training.  We’ll also be repeating the Earth Day Festival and adding a community festival in the spring.  We can do a lot this year, but we need your help to make it happen.

If you need more information, please email Lisa Roe, PTA treasurer, at lwroe@grandecom.net.

Thanks for your support!

MARATHON KIDS KICKOFF
